We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of a major portfolio of works on the Sizewell C nuclear new-build project.
This is a high-profile opportunity to join a strategically important project portfolio, with more than £20m of secured works and a further £40m+ pipeline of opportunities at various stages of negotiation.
You will take the lead on the commercial management of major packages covering dewatering, water treatment, surface water management, abstraction wells, pumping tests, water sampling and testing, instrumentation and monitoring, and temporary works design.
Reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor and working closely with the SZC Project Lead, you will have significant responsibility for commercial performance, contract administration, change management, forecasting, cash recovery and protecting commercial entitlement.
Key Responsibilities of a Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Take lead commercial ownership of key Sizewell C accounts from contract award through to final account.
- Manage cost, value, margin and cash performance across a £20m+ secured portfolio.
- Administer NEC3/4 contracts, including Options A, C and E, alongside project-specific requirements.
- Manage contractual notices, early warnings, compensation events, variations, re-measures and extensions of time.
- Provide commercial and contractual advice to project managers, operational teams and senior stakeholders.
- Prepare and manage live cost plans, CVRs, forecasts and cash-flow projections.
- Lead monthly valuations and applications for payment, driving effective cash recovery.
- Identify, quantify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Own the change-control and compensation-event process, ensuring changes are properly notified, priced and recorded.
- Support interim and final accounts and maintain robust commercial records and evidence.
- Provide commercial direction and mentoring to the SZC Quantity Surveyor.
- Build and lead an expanded commercial team as the project pipeline develops.
- Act as a senior commercial interface with the client, alliance partners, contractors, subcontractors and supply chain.
- Maintain a strong site presence to monitor progress, measure works and maintain commercial visibility.
- Support bids, pricing, risk allowances, tenders and negotiations for future project opportunities.
- Produce accurate monthly commercial reports and ensure compliance with project governance and assurance requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
