Company Overview
Our client is a rapidly growing electrical infrastructure business delivering complex projects across the UK.
Operating across EV charging, grid connections, HV works, civils, and electrical infrastructure, the business provides an end-to-end service from initial design and development through to construction, installation, and commissioning.
With a strong pipeline of projects and continued growth across the UK, they are looking to strengthen their commercial function with the appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
The Role
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will take commercial responsibility across a portfolio of electrical infrastructure projects, managing projects from tender and pre-construction through delivery and final account.
Working closely with Project Managers, Estimating, Operations, Finance, and senior leadership, you will ensure projects are commercially controlled, risks are identified early, and expected margins are achieved.
This is a broad commercial role covering project performance, subcontractor management, procurement, contracts, and commercial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial performance of projects from pre-construction through to final account
- Set and manage project budgets, costs, forecasts, and margins
- Produce CVRs and regular commercial reporting
- Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations, and change control
- Identify and manage commercial and contractual risk
- Procure and commercially manage subcontractors
- Manage subcontractor payments, variations, and final accounts
- Support procurement of high-value electrical equipment including substations, transformers, and switchgear
- Review and administer NEC, JCT, and framework contracts
- Manage early warnings, compensation events, and contractual notices
- Support tendering, estimating, and pre-construction activities
- Work closely with Project Managers to monitor costs, programme, and profitability
- Manage client-facing commercial discussions and negotiations
- Feed actual project costs back into estimating and future pricing
- Support improvements to commercial processes, reporting, and systems
- Mentor and support junior commercial team members where required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
