Quantity Surveyor

The Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the commercial management of construction projects, ensuring effective cost control, accurate valuations, and strong supplier and subcontractor relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review construction drawings and specifications to identify labour, materials, plant, and specialist subcontractor requirements.
  • Prepare tender enquiries and obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate costs, rates, and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Prepare subcontractor valuations and manage accounts through to final account settlement.
  • Produce and submit monthly valuations, including the assessment and recording of variations and additional works.
  • Liaise directly with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders to agree rates, variations, and cost analyses.
  • Measure completed works in accordance with contract schedules of rates.
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations and final accounts within agreed timescales.
  • Work closely with project management and finance teams to ensure robust commercial control and maximize project profitability.
  • Produce accurate monthly cost reports and contribute to management and client progress meetings.
  • Attend site visits and project progress meetings as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Candidates with an HND/HNC qualification and relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying or Estimating role within a main contracting environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities and manage project costs effectively.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the confidence to engage with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently while contributing positively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project.
