Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor
Up to £95,000 + Package | Stansted | Site-Based
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an established and highly respected construction and fit-out contractor delivering complex projects across the UK. With more than 30 years of industry experience, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering technically demanding projects within specialist commercial and operational environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team working on high-value construction and fit-out projects in Stansted, with significant M&E elements and multiple subcontractor packages. The business is looking for someone with the experience and commercial capability to take ownership of their projects and play a key role in their successful delivery.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll take commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to final account. You'll work closely with the Project Management and site teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered commercially and efficiently. You'll be involved across the full commercial lifecycle, including procurement, cost control, valuations, variations, applications, payments, forecasting and final accounts. This is a role suited to someone who enjoys being close to the project and wants genuine responsibility rather than simply managing a small section of the commercial process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take commercial ownership of projects from pre-construction through to completion
- Manage project budgets, costs and forecasts
- Prepare and manage valuations, applications and payments
- Manage variations, change control and commercial risk
- Procure and manage subcontractor packages
- Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers
- Monitor project costs against budget
- Produce accurate financial reporting and forecasting
- Manage commercial correspondence and contractual matters
- Prepare, negotiate and agree final accounts
- Work closely with Project Managers and site teams
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
