We are Hiring: Quantity Surveyor

Rate: £400 per day, Inside IR35
Location: Dudley

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Procurement professional with a strong background in local authority and public sector projects. The successful candidate will provide immediate commercial and procurement support, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and with strong value for money.

The role will focus on pre-contract and procurement activities, commercial assessments, tender evaluation, and contract documentation, while supporting effective governance and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support pre-contract and procurement activities for public sector projects.
  • Undertake commercial assessments, cost reviews, and tender evaluations.
  • Prepare and review tender and contract documentation.
  • Provide commercial advice to project teams, consultants, and contractors.
  • Ensure procurement and commercial activities comply with the Procurement Act 2023 and relevant public sector requirements.
  • Support governance, risk management, and value-for-money objectives.
  • Identify and manage commercial and procurement risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and procurement teams.
  • Provide immediate commercial expertise to support efficient project delivery.
  • Maintain appropriate commercial records and contribute to audit and governance requirements.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, or Procurement professional.
  • Strong experience working on local authority or public sector projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in pre-contract and procurement activities.
  • Knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector procurement compliance.
  • Experience in tender evaluation and commercial assessment.
  • Strong contract documentation and commercial management skills.
  • Understanding of governance, risk management, and value-for-money principles.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide immediate commercial support in a public sector environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will combine strong Quantity Surveying/commercial expertise with practical knowledge of public sector procurement and governance. Experience within a local authority environment is highly desirable, particularly where the candidate has managed pre-contract, tendering, and commercial activities.
