I’m recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the infrastructure team of a leading construction consultancy in London.
This is a client-facing role supporting the delivery of a major UK infrastructure programme, with responsibility for cost and commercial management across the project lifecycle.
It’s a good opportunity for an SQS who enjoys the technical side of the job but also wants genuine client exposure, responsibility, and a clear route to progress.
The Role

- Cost monitoring, forecasting, and reporting through to completion
- Contract administration and commercial management
- Managing change, cost variance, and contract cash flow
- Preparing and assessing valuations and applications for payment
- Supporting procurement and tendering activity
- Reviewing estimates, budgets, and commercial forecasts
- Monitoring project and programme performance alongside contractor and client teams
- Identifying opportunities for value engineering and improved commercial outcomes
- Managing change control in line with project governance
- Negotiating and agreeing final accounts
- Providing commercial advice to clients and project stakeholders
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
- Managing commissions and developing strong client relationships

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
