Senior Quantity Surveyor | Civil Engineering

An established specialist civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.

This role combines hands-on commercial management with supporting and guiding Quantity Surveyors across the team. You will help ensure strong contractual administration, accurate forecasting, and proactive management of project risks and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial delivery of assigned work packages.
  • Maintain accurate cost reporting, forecasting and cash-flow information.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations and final accounts.
  • Administer NEC4 contracts effectively.
  • Manage early warnings and compensation events.
  • Identify, assess and record project changes.
  • Maintain accurate commercial and contractual records.
  • Provide advice on contractual obligations and commercial implications.
  • Prepare tender documentation and support subcontractor procurement.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor quotations and agreements.
  • Monitor supplier performance and drive value for money.
  • Review project programmes and sequencing from a commercial perspective.
  • Work closely with project, planning, engineering and operational teams.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support claim preparation and dispute avoidance.
  • Mentor Quantity Surveyors and review commercial outputs for accuracy.
  • Help develop a positive, collaborative and high-performing commercial team.

Essential Experience

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong commercial experience within construction or civil engineering.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and project information.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working towards or holding professional membership with RICS, ICES or CIOB.
