Senior Quantity Surveyor - Manchester / Carlisle
Location: Manchester / Carlisle & Site Visits
Reports to: Commercial Director
Are you a commercially driven QS / Senior Quantity Surveyor who wants to play a key role in protecting and improving project profitability, driving strong commercial governance, and supporting a growing business?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative commercial team, in a well-established specialist contractor operating within painting, decorating and coatings. As a business, they have built a strong reputation in the market evidenced by repeat work with key clients, including a number of Tier 1 contractors, and a consistent pipeline of secured projects across commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, hotel & leisure and residential sectors.
Working as an important figure in the Commercial team, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects, ensuring financial control, strong contractual management, and proactive risk mitigation. You will also support CVR reporting and commercial forecasting to provide clear visibility of project performance across the business.

What you’ll be doing as Senior QS:
- Manage the commercial performance of multiple painting and decorating contracts.
- Ensure projects remain commercially compliant and financially controlled.
- Prepare applications, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Manage subcontractor accounts and cost control.
- Support monthly CVR reporting and commercial forecasting.
- Review and challenge project costs to maximise profitability.
- Ensure robust contract administration and commercial governance.
- Work closely with Contracts Managers and Operations Teams to ensure projects follow the correct commercial process.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and areas of margin improvement.
- Protect the business from contractual exposure, underpayment, or disputes.
- Maintain strong client relationships and support commercial negotiations.

What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction or specialist subcontracting.
- Strong understanding of commercial processes and cost control.
- Experience managing valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Strong contractual awareness and understanding of payment mechanisms.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational teams.
- Commercially driven with strong attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence.
