Senior Quantity Surveyor
Chelmsford | Hybrid Working | Permanent or Contract
We are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major contractor delivering long-term projects across the UK water and infrastructure sector.
About the Opportunity
This opportunity would suit an established Senior Quantity Surveyor, or an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step up, with a background working for a main contractor. Previous experience within water, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure would be highly beneficial, with knowledge of NEC contracts particularly advantageous.
Our client is open to both permanent and contract applicants, depending on the experience and availability of the individual.
Location and Reporting
Based from Chelmsford with hybrid working, you will report to the Commercial Lead and take responsibility for several key accounts on a major project, or overall financial control of smaller projects.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Applications, valuations and Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR)
- Cost control, forecasting and monthly commercial reporting
- Monitoring value, cost, profit/loss and cash flow
- Supply chain and subcontractor management
- Preparing subcontract enquiries, negotiating terms and setting up contracts
- Supporting risk and value management
- Contract management and commercial administration
- Ensuring contractual notices and project documentation are kept up to date
- Providing commercial and contractual advice to project and site teams
- Liaising with site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives
- Identifying and managing commercial risk and opportunities
- Supporting the successful commercial delivery of water and infrastructure projects

Ideal Candidate Profile
Ideally you'll have:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience with a main contractor
- Strong commercial management and cost control experience
- Experience with valuations, CVRs, forecasting and subcontractor management
- Good knowledge of construction contracts and contractual processes
- The ability to take ownership of your own projects, accounts or commercial packages
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with operational and delivery teams
ARICS status or working towards APC would be advantageous.
Previous experience within water, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure would be highly beneficial.
Knowledge of NEC contracts would also be advantageous.
