I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About The Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of a Project integrated Capital Delivery team responsible for the Procurement and contract management of construction related project activities to safely deliver our capital programme within budget and within schedule. The capital programme projects vary from Building and Civils works to our critical infrastructure projects on the Runways and Taxiways.
We adopt a category management approach to drive standardisation against a total cost of ownership model and you will develop and implement sub-category strategies that are aligned with business needs. All roles require the ability to collaborate and build strong relationships.
At MAG, we challenge our teams to deliver better solutions in a more sustainable way, whilst modernising practices and innovating the airport experience. Your contribution will truly make a difference to the airport experience for colleagues, partners, and guests.
What Will Make You Successful
The successful candidate will be an experienced and driven professional, with a strong background in the construction industry and a proven track record of working in environments where Health, Safety, and Environment are a top priority. The ideal candidate will have significant, demonstrable experience in procurement / commercial experience in a post-contract managed environment, with a deep understanding of NEC 4 forms of contract. They will bring a successful history of developing main and sub-contracting strategies, working with diverse stakeholder groups, and influencing decisions through in-depth knowledge of the construction market.

A solid grasp of EU procurement methodologies and the Procurement Act 2023 is desirable but not essential. A degree qualification and RICS or MCIPS accreditation (or working towards it) are highly desirable. This is a great opportunity for Construction Quantity Surveyors to come and work for an Aviation client that has a yearly programme of works in a busy commercial airport.
Equal Opportunities & Reasonable Adjustments
We’re building something brilliant at MAG: a diverse team of Journey Makers who share our values and want to make a difference. We’re on a mission to be number one in our industry, and that takes talent in all its forms. With so many exciting roles across our airports and businesses, there’s space for your unique strengths to shine.
Whether this is your first role or your next big step, we want to hear from you – even if you don’t think you tick every box. What matters most is what you bring.
We’re proud to be a Disability Confident employer. If you need any adjustments to support your application or interview, just let us know. We’re committed to helping you perform at your best.
At MAG, every journey matters. Our Colleague Communities play a big part in that: Women’s Network, Embrace (Race & Ethnicity), Fly with Pride (LGBTQIA+), Mind Matters (Mental Health), PACT (Parents & Carers), RespectABILITY (Disability & Neurodiversity), and the CAVU Global ID&E Affinity Group.
