We’re looking for a Senior Radiological Assessor. Based at our Capenhurst site, you’ll act as a Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for Radiological & Chemotoxic Safety Assessments. The Senior Radiological Assessor is accountable for leading delivery of safety assessments to cost, time and quality, determining appropriate assessment methodologies to apply, and structuring assessments to ensure they are fit for purpose and manageable throughout their life. They are to undertake peer reviews of assessments produced by others, including the supply chain, and provide expert advice to the Capenhurst site on the detailed content of safety cases on site.

What You’ll Do

  • Accountable for delivery of Safety Assessments to cost and schedule
  • Accountable as Design Authority Intelligent Customer for external delivery of Safety Assessments
  • Accountable for Maintaining UUK Safety Case Assessment & Management Procedures
  • Providing Safety Case Support to the Capenhurst site
  • Personal Accountability for Continuing Professional Development
  • Tactical Safety Advisor - provide safety advice in the event of an emergency response

What do you need to thrive in this role?

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
  • Previous experience directly relevant experience as a Radiological/ Chemotoxic Safety Assessor or Nuclear Safety Assessor.
  • Knowledge of uranium hexafluoride hazards is beneficial to the role
  • Competent Safety Assessor and Peer Reviewer.
  • Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.
  • Thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework and Regulator expectations in respect of safety assessments.
  • Has experience of each stage of the Safety Case lifecycle and experience of Safety Cases from other Licensees.
  • Strong analytical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during an emergency situation.

Security vetting

Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
