Job Description

Overview

We're looking for a leader who is passionate about radiological protection, thrives on solving complex challenges, and takes pride in developing high-performing teams. As a Technical Manager – Radiological Protection, you will leverage your technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership strengths to deliver safe, compliant, and innovative solutions across a diverse portfolio of nuclear and defence projects. You will build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, influence critical decisions, and champion a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the nuclear lifecycle while helping shape the future capability and success of our radiological protection function.

Your role

  • Lead and provide technical oversight for a portfolio of radiological protection projects across the nuclear and defence sectors.
  • Act as a trusted technical authority, delivering expert advice on radiation protection, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and to the highest quality standards while meeting client and business objectives.
  • Support and deliver Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) services, providing practical and robust solutions to complex challenges.
  • Drive the development and implementation of radiological protection strategies throughout the nuclear lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulators, project managers, and technical specialists to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop radiological protection professionals, promoting a culture of learning and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to technical standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives within the RP function.
  • Support business growth through client engagement, proposal development, and identification of new opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across industry, regulatory, and client organisations.

About you

  • Experienced radiological protection professional with significant expertise in nuclear and/or defence environments.
  • Strong understanding of radiological protection principles, UK legislation, and regulatory requirements, including IRR17 and ALARP.
  • Combine technical excellence with strong leadership and people-development capabilities.
  • Confident providing technical assurance and guidance on complex radiological protection matters.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering successful project outcomes.
  • Effective communicator who can build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Passionate about developing talent, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Commercially aware and able to balance technical requirements with project and business objectives.
  • Thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy solving complex technical challenges.
  • Committed to delivering innovative, practical, and client-focused radiological protection solutions.
