Senior Recruitment Consultant – Public Sector

Up to £35,000 + Commission | Remote

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Recruitment Consultant to join our Specialist Solutions team and take ownership of growing our permanent and fixed-term public-sector recruitment offering.

This is a genuine 360 recruitment opportunity for someone who enjoys building a market, developing client relationships and creating new business — not simply working vacancies as they land.

The opportunity

Opus People Solutions already has an established footprint across local government through a number of MSP and long-standing public-sector relationships.

Your role will be to turn that access into greater permanent and FTC recruitment opportunities building relationships with hiring managers, identifying areas where we can add more value and increasing our share of recruitment across those organisations.

But your market won’t stop there.

You’ll also have the freedom and responsibility to develop new public-sector business outside our existing accounts, identifying target organisations, opening new relationships and building your own portfolio of clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We want someone who can look at a market and ask:

  • Where is the opportunity?
  • Who should we be speaking to?
  • What aren’t we currently supplying?
  • And how do we turn that into a long-term client relationship?

What you’ll recruit

You’ll recruit permanent and FTC appointments across professional and specialist functions within local government and the wider public sector, including areas such as:

  • Finance & Accountancy
  • HR & OD
  • Legal & Governance
  • Procurement
  • Transformation & Change
  • Projects & Programmes
  • Housing
  • Planning & Regeneration
  • Corporate & Professional Services

You’ll have scope to develop areas of specialism based on market demand and your own expertise.

What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally already understand public-sector recruitment and local government and be comfortable developing relationships with stakeholders at different levels.

Most importantly, you’ll be a commercial 360 recruiter.

You’ll be someone who can:

  • Develop and penetrate existing client accounts
  • Generate new business through proactive BD
  • Build relationships directly with hiring managers
  • Identify opportunities beyond advertised vacancies
  • Map and develop target public-sector organisations
  • Manage the complete recruitment process
  • Build credible specialist candidate networks
  • Convert strong delivery into repeat and broader business
  • Work autonomously and take genuine ownership of a market

You’ll need the confidence to create opportunities rather than wait for them.

Why join Specialist Solutions?

You’ll be joining a growing specialist recruitment service where you’ll have genuine ownership of the public-sector permanent and FTC market.

You’ll have an existing platform to build from, rather than starting with nothing, alongside the autonomy to develop new clients and shape your own desk.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Specialist Solutions, with support around market strategy, key client relationships and wider business development, while retaining responsibility for building and growing your own market.

We’re looking for someone who wants more than a list of vacancies to work.

We want someone who wants to build something.
