Recruitment Consultant / Senior Recruitment Consultant / Lead Consultant – Water Portsmouth | Permanent | Full Time
Ready to make your mark in one of the UK’s most important infrastructure markets? Carrington West is growing, and we are looking for an experienced recruiter to join our established Water team.
We are open to speaking with people at Recruitment Consultant, Senior Recruitment Consultant, or Lead Consultant level. More important than your current job title is your ambition: this is an opportunity for someone who wants to build their market, grow their influence, and, ultimately, put themselves in a position to lead and develop the team in the future.
With major investment continuing across the UK water sector, you will be joining a specialist recruitment business with an established brand, strong client relationships, and the platform to build a highly successful desk.
Recognised as an IIP Platinum UK Employer of the Year and named by The Sunday Times as one of the Best Places to Work, Carrington West offers the training, support, and progression opportunities to help ambitious recruiters achieve more.
The opportunity
Depending on your experience, you will take ownership of a specialist area within the water market, developing relationships with clients and candidates across the sector.
You will have the freedom to grow your desk while benefiting from the wider Carrington West network, including warm leads, existing relationships, and cross-selling opportunities across our infrastructure teams.
For someone joining at Senior or Lead level, there will also be the opportunity to play an increasingly important role in the development of the team, supporting colleagues, sharing market knowledge, and helping shape our growth strategy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
