Job Description

Join a highly experienced Building Control team working on a diverse range of projects across one of the UK's most distinctive regions.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis. Applications received by midnight each Tuesday will be reviewed on Wednesday, with interviews normally taking place the following week. As vacancies may be filled before the closing date, we encourage early applications and reserve the right to close the advert once all positions have been filled.

The Service & Team

Cornwall is a fantastic place to live and work, with a diverse built environment that includes everything from historic buildings to major new developments.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Building Inspector to join Cornwall Council's Building Control service. We provide a professional, customer-focused service to businesses and communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Whether you're registered at a higher RBI class or currently working at Class 2A and looking to progress, this could be the ideal next step in your career.

The Role

As a Senior Building Inspector, you will help ensure buildings across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are safe, sustainable, accessible, and compliant with Building Regulations. You'll provide expert advice to customers, developers, and construction professionals while supporting the delivery of a high-quality Building Control service.

In This Role You'll

  • Undertake complex building regulation assessments and inspections.
  • Provide regulatory advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Support compliance, enforcement, and public safety activities where required.
  • Mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to the ongoing development of the service.

Working Pattern

Whilst the formal work base for this role is New County Hall, Truro, the Building Control team largely operates through home-based and agile working arrangements, with office facilities available across Cornwall.

What You'll Need To Succeed

We're looking for customer-focused Building Inspectors with strong technical expertise, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
