About the Role

We are looking for an experienced manager to join our Registration Service team as a Senior Registration Officer. This is a key management role where you will also hold a statutory officer position on behalf of the Registrar General and the County Council. You will ensure the accurate and professional registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships while maintaining compliance with legislation and local policies. You will work closely with three other Senior Registration Officers and will directly line manage a team of approximately seven Registration Officers. Working as part of the management team, you will have responsibility for staff development, training, quality assurance, stock control, policy, and the review and development of policies and procedures. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference within a service that supports people through some of the most important moments of their lives. You will join a supportive and dedicated team that is committed to delivering excellent customer service and driving continuous improvement. Due to the front facing customer nature of the role within the service it is mainly office based with some limited home working dependent on service requirements.

About You

You will have experience in managing people and teams particularly those in a pressurised, frontline environment providing excellent customer service. You will have the ability to deal confidently and sensitively with customers experiencing a wide range of emotional circumstances and you will be skilled in managing customer feedback. The ability to lead and support staff through change is essential. Experience within a legal, medical, compliance, proofreading, or similarly detail-focused environment would be advantageous. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of training, mentoring, coaching, or delivering presentations to groups. You will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities. The role requires someone who can interpret and explain complex legal or technical information clearly and confidently to colleagues, customers, and stakeholders. Above all, you will lead by example, demonstrating the Council's values and behaviours. You will be able to demonstrate resilience, flexibility, professionalism, and self-motivation in a fast-paced working environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
