About the Team
A leading UK specialist regulatory law practice, consistently ranked in the top tier by both Legal 500 and Chambers UK, is seeking a Senior or Principal Associate to join its highly regarded Professional Discipline team.
The practice is recognised nationally for its expertise in fitness to practise and regulatory law, with a long-established reputation for handling complex, sensitive, and high-profile matters. With over two decades of experience, the team advises a wide range of regulators across health and social care, veterinary and equine, legal services, education, and surveying sectors.

The Role
This is a senior-level opportunity to work at the forefront of regulatory and professional discipline law.
You will manage a varied caseload involving fitness to practise proceedings, where professionals face allegations relating to misconduct, clinical failings, criminal convictions, competency concerns, or health-related issues. Cases range from large-scale fraud and systemic clinical failings to sensitive matters involving vulnerable individuals and serious allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior/Principal Associate, you will:
- Take ownership of complex, high-risk regulatory and disciplinary cases from instruction through to conclusion
- Lead on case strategy, procedural planning, and evidential assessment
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior lawyers and support staff
- Provide clear, practical, and strategic advice to clients, counsel, and experts
- Act as an escalation point for legal and strategic issues within the team
- Instruct and liaise with counsel and expert witnesses, including preparation of briefs and conferences
- Review witness evidence and expert reports, identifying issues and areas for clarification
- Prepare high-quality submissions, reports, and case documents
- Contribute to business development, client engagement, and profile-raising initiatives
- Support continuous improvement, training, and knowledge sharing across the team

About You
We are looking for a confident and experienced regulatory lawyer who can operate with a high degree of autonomy. You will likely have:
- Significant experience in regulatory, disciplinary, professional standards, or litigation work
- Strong exposure to fitness to practise or equivalent regulatory proceedings
- Proven ability to manage complex, sensitive, and high-risk matters independently
- Experience supervising and developing junior team members
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, counsel, and experts
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues early and provide clear, strategic solutions
- Confidence acting as a senior point of escalation within a legal team
