Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

We are out across the city every day, in various locations such as:

  • Businesses which prepare food,
  • Retail units,
  • Festivals and events,
  • Licensed premises,
  • Sports grounds
  • Various types of workplaces (offices, warehouses etc)

We ensure standards are met and risks are properly managed.

We investigate complaints, undertake accident investigations, investigate cases of infectious disease, carry out inspections, gather evidence and, where necessary, use our statutory powers to protect the public.

It is visible work. It is practical. And it makes a tangible difference.

Together we protect health, improve working conditions, and support responsible businesses to thrive. The work ranges from advisory visits and compliance checks through to formal enforcement action and preparing and attending cases for court or hearings.

Within this environment, a Senior Regulatory Officer provides professional leadership on complex investigations and high risk enforcement cases, while overseeing the daily operations of the team and being that first point of technical support and guiding colleagues to deliver consistent, high quality outcomes.

The ability to prepare clear reports and statements for potential legal proceedings is essential, and you may be required to represent the Service and the Council at formal hearings. What You Will Be Doing

Using your expertise, you’ll matrix manage a team of enforcement officers, providing clear and concise technical advice to others. You’ll monitor the work of individuals and inspire team performance as well as create opportunities to be innovative. You’ll support team development and encourage autonomy to enable the team to do their best work.

You’ll have experience of dealing with complex cases and taking appropriate enforcement action including building and progressing cases for prosecution.

You’ll also oversee some of the team’s most complex cases. You’ll analyse complex environmental health issues and other regulatory services related situations to make informed decisions.

As an excellent communicator, you’ll be assertive when dealing with challenging situations or people to achieve positive outcomes. With a commitment to team working and a high level of organisation skills, you’ll effectively manage resources and activities to successfully develop individual and teams work programmes. You’ll be self-motivated and have a flexible approach to create a professional and positive working environment.
