The Role
The senior reporter produces accurate, engaging and well-informed news and analysis on stories across the biggest UK environmental stories of our time, from the sewage scandal and toxic chemical pollution, to the biodiversity crisis and waste crime. Their work keeps ENDS Report’s audience informed and helps them do their jobs effectively. They are responsible for identifying and pursuing original stories, monitoring a wide range of sources and developing relationships with contacts across the environment space.
The role focuses on news reporting, with wider opportunities for data journalism, research, podcasting and working on longer-form content. The senior reporter contributes to ENDS Report’s ECO Chamber podcast, and supports social media activity and homepage upkeep, while ensuring content is delivered accurately and to deadline.
The senior reporter has a strong network of contacts, developing their source book by attending industry conferences and Westminster events, contributing ideas to the wider editorial team and helping maintain the high standards of journalism that ENDS Report’s audience expects.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring widely for news and generating off diary news
- Writing relevant, timely news articles for ENDS Report
- Understanding and interpreting subscribers’ requirements
- Respecting deadlines, briefs and house style
- Assisting with research to support the development and production of special reports for ENDS Report
- Assisting with ENDS Report’s tracker services, including monitoring for and uploading updates
- Checking facts to ensure accuracy
- Being aware of the political and economic context of stories
- Positively communicating the ENDS brand in person and through social media platforms
Key Relationships
The role reports to the news editor and works closely with the wider editorial team. You will also build relationships with external contacts across the environment and work collaboratively with marketing, and commercial teams where required.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Knowledge
- Good understanding of media law
- An understanding of environmental issues or a proven interest in the area
- Good news sense and ability to think creatively about the news agenda
- Curiosity and the willingness to become knowledgeable about the subject matter
Skills
- A recognised journalistic qualification and at least two years of experience in B2B journalism, national news, or investigative reporting, with a proven history of breaking exclusive news.
- Data journalism skills, or the capacity to develop them
- Ability to build and maintain professional contacts
- Excellent writing and communications skills

- Producing high-quality data-led content that provides value to ENDS Report’s professional audience.
- Maintaining accurate and timely tracker services and effectively monitoring relevant sources.
