Background to the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Reporter to join the award-winning editorial team at our flagship title, Utility Week, covering one of the most fast-paced and dynamic news patches around.

They will be tasked with contributing to all of our editorial outputs, including:

  • Writing stories for the daily newsletters
  • Producing off diary stories
  • In-depth analysis

There is also an opportunity to build our multi-media offering, across podcasts, video, and on social media. We would expect them to embed themselves within the utilities sector and build close connections with industry figures.

Person Specification

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • At least three years’ + experience as a reporter
  • Ability to point to genuine exclusives and scoops throughout their career

Prior knowledge of the utilities sector is not required but the successful candidate would need to be a quick learner.

Ideally, they will have:

  • Three years+ experience as a reporter
  • The ability to build relationships with key contacts
  • To be a self-starter who is buzzing with ideas for news stories and features
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage their time effectively, including hitting deadlines

What we require (knowledge, competencies, qualifications, and skills of applicant)

  • Relevant journalism qualification, i.e., NCTJ
  • Three years+ experience on a credible media title
  • Able to evidence strong writing and research skills
  • A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to search out exclusive stories
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Organised and able to prioritise effectively
