Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.
The Project
In the energy sector, the UK will need to invest up to £900 billion of capital expenditure to enable a net zero economy by 2050. For our clients in the sector, this means delivering complex projects and programmes delivering low-carbon technologies and infrastructure. And doing so safely, efficiently, and at pace.
Decarbonisation of energy is currently constrained by the capacity of, and connection to, the electricity network. This role will be at the forefront of this, contributing to the delivery of construction projects increasing capacity on the network, and connecting new generation and storage into the grid. Working closely with client and contractor teams, you will manage and drive project controls activities on major projects and programmes. This may include the set-up of project controls functions, delivery of day-to-day services, and continuous improvement of existing operations to enable greater productivity and performance across the portfolio.
You’ll be Responsible for:
- Monitoring the quality of project performance data, quality reporting, and leading on improvement activities for clear project status and preparation for regulatory submissions.
- Building reports and local dashboards to meet Infrastructure Delivery reporting requirements (Portfolio management reports, DRM reports, ET Exec, etc.).
- Ensuring the integrity of project performance data by ensuring adequate governance and controls are in place for data which is required for the project and ID Leadership team.
- Managing the timely delivery of the reporting calendar that meets the ongoing needs of Infrastructure delivery.
- To lead cross functional work with across other business teams to improve the integrity of the source data.
- Developing and delivering reporting tools and models for day-to-day management of the data required to satisfy ID reporting requirements.
- Ensuring data is managed to be compliant with the National Grid Data Management minimum standards, principles, and guidelines.
- Accountable for ensuring data publications comply with the National Grid Data Management minimum standards, principles, and guidelines.
- Supporting from an ID perspective with the initial needs cases, final needs cases, and UM Re-openers.
- Supporting the compilation of data and agenda for the Infrastructure Delivery Project Board and Monthly Performance Meetings.
- Supporting the Regional Project Controls Manager with compiling the future workbook, working with the Training and Competence Manager to determine the recruitment needs, feeding the data into the BIO workforce planning team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
