Role Purpose
We are seeking a Senior Research Analyst to join our Europe Gas & LNG Markets team.
The successful candidate will contribute to Wood Mackenzie's research and insight on European gas and LNG markets, helping clients understand the commercial, infrastructure, regulatory, and market developments shaping the sector.
Working closely with colleagues across Gas & LNG, Power, and Carbon research, they will deliver analysis of market fundamentals, pricing, infrastructure, policy developments, and emerging trends, with particular expertise in continental Northwest European gas markets.

Main Responsibilities
Content Development
- Contribute to Wood Mackenzie's research and outlooks for European gas and LNG markets.
- Analyse market fundamentals including supply, demand, pricing, storage, infrastructure, and trade flows.
- Assess the implications of national and European policy, regulatory, and geopolitical developments on market outcomes.
- Develop insights on Northwest European gas markets, particularly Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
- Translate complex market developments into clear and commercially relevant insight for clients.
Client Engagement
- Engage with clients to understand business priorities and analytical requirements.
- Respond to client enquiries and support presentations, webinars, and industry events.
- Help ensure research remains aligned with customer needs and market developments.
Team Contribution
- Support the development of colleagues through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and coaching.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.
Requirements
- We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.
- Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
- Applicants must have the legal Right to Work in the country this role is based in. We are unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.

About You
- 4+ years of experience in European gas markets, energy, utilities, commodities, market analysis, commercial, strategy, or regulatory roles.
- Strong understanding of European gas market fundamentals, including supply, demand, pricing, storage, transportation, and market structure.
- Knowledge of gas infrastructure and transportation networks, particularly within Continental Northwest Europe.
- Understanding of the commercial drivers behind trading, procurement, investment, and risk management decisions in energy markets.
- Knowledge of one or more key European gas markets, with expertise in Germany, the Netherlands, and/or Belgium particularly valued.
- Strong understanding of European policy and governance, including the political and institutional dynamics that shape market outcomes, and the ability to identify developments with genuine commercial significance.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and translate complex questions into actionable insights.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with market modelling, quantitative analysis, Python, SQL, or similar analytical tools would be advantageous.
