Role Description
A Senior Research Fellow in Circular Economy/Material and Energy Use (Ref: 41871)
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Brighton. The postholder will conduct advanced research on the politics of policies for transforming modes of consumption and circular economy in production in the UK, focusing on material and energy use.
Day-to-day tasks include:
- Designing and implementing research methodologies
- Collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
- Developing analytical frameworks to support sustainable resource use
- Writing high-quality publications and presenting findings at conferences, seminars, and stakeholder meetings
- Collaborating with partners in government, and potentially contributing to teaching or supervision activities
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in policy studies, political economy of sustainability, or related fields, supported by a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline.
- Proficiency in research design, data collection, and analysis, including quantitative and/or qualitative methods, modelling, or systems analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality peer-reviewed publications and reports, and to communicate complex concepts clearly to expert and non-expert audiences.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, working across political science, political economy, environmental science, economics or policy studies.
- Skills in stakeholder engagement, including working with industry, policymakers, or community partners.
- Evidence of contributing to or leading research proposals, grant applications, or funded research projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple workstreams, and meet deadlines in a dynamic research environment.
- Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory working practices, and to supporting diverse students and colleagues.
- Experience in higher education teaching, supervision, or mentoring, particularly at postgraduate level, is desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant software and tools (e.g., statistical packages, modelling software, or lifecycle assessment tools) is an advantage.
