The Role
The Senior Revenue Controller sits in the Finance Business Manager team and provides strategic financial insight and commercial guidance to support effective decision making across the business. Partnering with leadership teams and working closely with Finance Operations teams, they translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations that drive performance, improve forecasting, and strengthen long term planning.
Revenue Controllers will work to support and complement the Finance Business managers with a focus on actively managing and improving working capital. This will involve partnering with fee earners, practice group leaders, the Finance Business Managers, Finance Operations and Legal Debt Recovery Teams.
Duties And Responsibilities
Reporting to the Lead Finance Business Manager, the main duties include, but are not limited to:
- Support the Finance Business Managers to improve departmental financial performance- specifically lockup days.
- Oversight of the Credit and WIP position, working closely together with the Credit team and Fee Earners building strong working relationships.
- Preparing and delivering accurate financial reports, models and analysis to support working capital.
- Ad hoc analysis at client, matter, work-type, Partner and fee-earner level as needed.
- Preparing and delivering Monthly Debt and WIP trend analysis/models.
- Proactively targeting fee earners who have rising working capital (both work-in-progress and debtors)
- Drive timely billing of all billable WIP and monitor unbilled time
- Lead initiatives to remediate the root causes of queries
- Act as a bridge between the Finance Operations teams and the fee earners
- Provide insights and recommendations to reduce working capital days
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to revenue
- Identify process inefficiencies and lead improvement initiatives
- Contribute to finance transformation projects and system enhancements
- To manage process and be point of contact for our Legal Debt Recovery Process with external providers and/or internal teams
- Build strong working relationships with the Analysts supporting the FBM team

This role is hybrid with expectations that you will be onsite 2-4 days per week to facilitate opportunities to meet and interact with fee earners face to face.
Skills/Experience
- Experience of working capital management in a professional services environment (previous legal experience would be beneficial but is not essential)
- Demonstratable experience of positive impact on working capital days
- Strong knowledge of Finance Operations processes (Billing, Collections, Cashiering & Payments)
- Familiarity with legal finance systems (Elite 3E, Aderant, or similar) beneficial
- Excellent attention to detail
- You are a problem solver, can analyse the cause of the issue and take on initiatives to ensure those issues do not recur
- You are an exceptional communicator (written and oral), with the ability to influence some very challenging and/or senior stakeholders using a range of strategies
- You are analytical - we are a data-driven function and expect a high level of proficiency in this area
- You are a collaborator - you can work in partnership with colleagues in both Finance and the fee earners to resolve issues
- You are comfortable taking charge of your own workload with minimum supervision
