Senior Risk and Compliance Lawyer - £150-175k + Bonus

Leading City law firm | London

The opportunity

A leading City law firm is looking to appoint a Senior Risk and Compliance Lawyer to join an established Risk and Compliance function.

This is a senior advisory role with particular emphasis on professional conduct and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with experienced colleagues and advise partners, lawyers and business services teams on complex issues requiring strong legal judgement and pragmatic commercial advice.

The successful candidate will join a lean, experienced team and will be expected to make a substantive contribution from an early stage.

The role

You will advise across a broad range of law-firm risk and compliance matters, with a particular focus on:

  • professional conduct and regulatory compliance;
  • SRA regulatory obligations;
  • conflicts of interest;
  • confidentiality and client care;
  • AML and client onboarding issues;
  • complex and sensitive risk questions requiring senior judgement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You may also contribute to areas including claims and complaints, insurance matters, terms of business, regulatory developments and internal training.

What the role requires

You will need to be comfortable giving clear recommendations where regulatory, legal and commercial considerations do not point to an obvious answer.

The role involves regular interaction with senior lawyers and requires somebody who can build trust, challenge constructively and remain pragmatic without compromising appropriate risk standards.

Essential experience

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • substantial experience gained within a law-firm environment;
  • strong professional conduct and compliance experience;
  • good knowledge of the regulatory framework applying to solicitors and law firms;
  • experience advising on complex risk or regulatory issues;
  • sound legal and commercial judgement;
  • confidence working with partners and senior stakeholders;
  • the ability to manage competing demands and sensitive information.

Desirable experience

Experience in some of the following would be helpful but is not expected to be equally deep across every area:

  • AML;
  • claims handling;
  • professional indemnity or insurance;
  • data privacy;
  • complaints;
  • regulatory training.

About you

This opportunity is likely to suit either:

  • an established law-firm Risk or Compliance Lawyer who remains hands-on with professional conduct matters; or
  • a lawyer who has transitioned from private practice into a substantive risk and compliance role.

The emphasis is on the quality and relevance of your recent experience, rather than having covered every possible area of risk.

Working arrangements and package

  • £150-175k + Bonus (up to 15%)
  • Hybrid Working - 3 days in the office (Central London)
