Senior Risk Lawyer

Location: London / Hybrid (minimum 60% office attendance)
Salary: Competitive (DOE)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Risk Lawyer to join its established Risk & Compliance team in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor with a strong legal risk and compliance background within an international law firm to take on a broad and high-responsibility role, working closely with senior stakeholders across the firm's global network.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Legal Risk and support the Head of Legal Risk, Risk & Compliance Partner, and COLP across a wide range of legal risk and regulatory matters.

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 6–10 years' PQE.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working within the Risk team of an international law firm.
  • Detailed knowledge of the SRA Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Strong knowledge of legal risk and compliance within a law firm environment.
  • Experience advising on professional standards, ethics, conflicts, and regulatory matters.
  • Strong knowledge of financial crime, including AML and sanctions.
  • Experience advising on confidentiality, privilege, data protection, contracts, and related legal matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively with senior colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and IT skills.
  • Pragmatic and commercially minded approach.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and work autonomously.
  • High levels of discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally when required.
  • Experience providing training and dealing with claims and complaints would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on all aspects of legal risk and compliance across the firm's global operations.
  • Providing advice on the SRA Code of Conduct, professional standards, ethics, and best practice.
  • Advising on conflicts, financial crime, AML, and sanctions.
  • Advising on client and third-party terms and conditions and supplier contracts.
  • Providing advice on data protection and AI-related matters.
  • Identifying new and changing regulatory requirements affecting the firm's operations.
  • Drafting and updating policies and procedures in response to regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Working closely with Risk & Compliance, business services, and fee-earning teams across the firm's international offices.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal Risk, Risk & Compliance Partner, and COLP.
  • Maintaining registers and monitoring compliance.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of the firm's policies, systems, and processes.
  • Supporting audits and training across the firm's global network.
  • Providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal risk advice.
  • Assisting with ad hoc legal risk and compliance matters as required.
