HS2, Britain’s New High-Speed Railway

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Whether onsite or officed based all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Current Opportunity: Senior Risk Manager

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and communicates the use of appropriate risk management methodologies, tools and techniques with the Head of Risk
  • Ensure clarity and communication of the company’s risk management objectives, direction, policies, risk appetite and risk limits and identifying and managing risk.
  • Works with business unit leaders to establish, maintain and continuously improve opportunity and risk management capabilities and practices.
  • Challenges the business unit's success in managing their risks through regular monitoring and evaluation.
  • Responsible for ensuring capability of the Risk Co-ordinators to deliver training and workshops.
  • Ensure risk management education and training is delivered throughout the business units utilising business unit Risk Co-ordinators.
  • To lead in developing risk mitigation strategies for the organisation’s critical risks and for monitoring these risks through risk registers.

Essential Experience:

  • 10 years experience of risk management and analysis in a major project environment
  • Expert user of Excel, Palisade @Risk and Primavera Risk Analysis (QSRA)
  • Familiarity with PowerBI, Salesforce Xactium, ARM, SafranRisk, systems
  • Experience working on Major construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstration of competency with implementing Risk Management processes aligned with ISO31000.
  • Expert knowledge of conducting QSRA and QCRA.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can deliver written and oral reports in an objective and persuasive manner.
  • A self-starter who can manage their own time and proactively seeks and executes activities that will add value to their function.
  • A detailed understanding of how risk management integrates with other Project Management and Project Controls disciplines including cost estimating, project planning contract administration and value management.
