David Kennedy Recruitment is working with a fast-growing AI technology company serving millions of users worldwide that is seeking to onboard a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join their R&D / Engineering team.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, helping design, build and scale core applications while working alongside the CTO, Tech Lead, Product Managers and SREs. The company's products include adult/NSFW content, so candidates must be fully comfortable working on them.

Position: Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

Location: Europe, Remote

Employment type: B2B engagement

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby on Rails
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to review requirements and translate specifications into technical solutions
  • Prepare technical integration plans, development breakdowns and effort estimates
  • Implement new features and improve existing platform functionality
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested production code
  • Take part in pull requests, peer code reviews and testing
  • Troubleshoot application issues and improve reliability, performance and scalability
  • Contribute to technical decision-making and product roadmap discussions
  • Experiment with technologies and approaches that improve product functionality and user experience
  • Work with distributed engineering, infrastructure and product teams

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years' commercial experience as a Backend or Full-Stack Software Engineer
  • Strong, recent hands-on Ruby on Rails experience in production
  • Ability to independently design and implement complex backend features
  • Experience on applications serving thousands or more monthly active users, with an understanding of building reliable, scalable systems
  • Experience in technology scale-ups, startups or similarly agile environments, comfortable with changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to take features from requirements through development, testing and production
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and comfortable working with international remote teams
  • Based in Europe, with CET ±3 hours working overlap
  • Fully comfortable working on AI companionship products involving uncensored and NSFW content
