Landed Estates | Legal Director / Partner | London
An opportunity to take a leading role within an established Landed Estates practice, with genuine scope for progression towards Partnership.
Lex Exec is working with a highly regarded London law firm on a senior appointment within its specialist Landed Estates & Agriculture practice.
The opportunity will particularly appeal to an experienced rural property lawyer who enjoys advising landed families, estate owners and farming businesses, and is looking for greater responsibility, autonomy and influence over the future development of a practice.
The firm is open to considering an ambitious Senior Associate, established Legal Director or existing Partner, with the appropriate entry point shaped around the individual's experience, practice and longer-term ambitions.
Importantly, a substantial portable client following is not necessarily required.
The Practice
The team has an established reputation advising significant landed estates, agricultural businesses, farming families and private landowners.
The work combines sophisticated rural property transactions with long-term strategic advice, often involving close collaboration with Private Client, Trusts and Tax specialists.
Matters include:
- Acquisitions and disposals of farms, agricultural land and landed estates
- Agricultural tenancies, farm business tenancies and estate management
- Easements, rights of way and complex land ownership matters
- Succession planning and the restructuring of landed estates
- Strategic land transactions, development and diversification
- Renewable energy, natural capital and environmental schemes
- Landowner arrangements, options, overage and other commercial property matters

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This is a genuinely specialist rural practice, rather than a general commercial property position with occasional agricultural instructions.
The Opportunity
For the right individual, the position offers the chance to take meaningful responsibility for established client relationships, work alongside recognised specialists and contribute to the continued development of the practice.
There is scope to develop a long-term career within the team, with a credible route towards Partnership for someone joining below that level.
It could be particularly attractive to a lawyer who has developed strong technical expertise and client relationships but feels that progression within their current firm is limited, or that they would benefit from a more focused private client and landed estates platform.
About You
We would welcome confidential conversations with lawyers who can demonstrate:
- Substantial experience in agricultural property, rural estates and landed estates work
- Confidence advising landowners, farming families and private clients
- Strong technical knowledge and commercial judgement
- The ability to manage complex matters and develop trusted client relationships
- An interest in mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to practice development
- The ambition to operate at Legal Director or Partner level, whether immediately or over time

An existing following or established business development network would be welcomed, but the quality of your experience, client relationships and longer-term potential are equally important.
A Confidential Conversation
Senior career moves require careful consideration, particularly where an individual has established strong client relationships and a reputation within a specialist market.
You do not need to be actively seeking a move.
If you would value an informed discussion about the opportunity, the practice and the potential longer-term career path, I would be pleased to speak with you confidentially.
