Senior Rust Engineer | Distributed Systems | Low Latency | Remote

Own the real time data processing core of a scaling fintech

Remote (UK, Europe or Dubai timezone)

Our client builds a B2B SaaS platform used by financial services firms to process, calculate and distribute time sensitive market data in real time. Following significant recent investment, they are scaling both the platform and engineering team, making this one of the most important hires in the business.

They are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to own and evolve the heart of the platform, taking responsibility for the flow of market data from ingestion through a shared calculation engine and out to clients with strict consistency guarantees.

This is far more than a Rust development role. It is an opportunity for someone who naturally thinks in distributed systems, someone who enjoys reasoning about concurrency, consistency, throughput and failure modes just as much as writing clean, production quality code.

Most of the migration from Clojure to Rust is already complete. The focus now is on scaling, hardening and extending the platform, building new services rather than rewriting legacy code. It is still early enough that your architectural decisions will have a genuine influence on where the platform goes next.

Backed by significant recent investment and an established customer base, the business combines the influence of an early stage engineering team with the stability of a proven product.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Owning the core Rust services responsible for ingesting, processing and distributing live market data.
  • Designing systems that deliver both low latency and strict consistency, ensuring clients always receive correct and complete data.
  • Evolving the streaming architecture, challenging existing approaches to partitioning, ordering, consumer scaling, back pressure and throughput.
  • Optimising for performance, making latency, resilience and observability first class engineering concerns.
  • Working closely with experienced engineers to debate design decisions, challenge assumptions and continuously improve the platform.
  • Building systems that are easy to reason about, monitor and operate in production.

What we're looking for

  • Deep commercial Rust fundamentals, building production systems where performance and correctness matter.
  • Strong understanding of concurrency and asynchronous programming, with confidence reasoning about ownership, borrowing, channels, memory behaviour and trait design.
  • Experience building or evolving distributed systems where latency, throughput and consistency all need careful consideration.
  • A systems thinker who naturally considers failure modes, observability and operational simplicity alongside implementation.
  • Someone who enjoys discussing technical trade offs and collaborating with other experienced engineers to reach the best solution.

We'd particularly like to hear from engineers with experience in

  • Financial markets or trading platforms.
  • Sports betting or gaming platforms.
  • Real time fraud detection.
  • High performance distributed systems.
  • Legitimate crypto or exchange infrastructure.

Experience in these environments is valuable because of the technical challenges involved rather than the domain itself.

Nice to have

  • Hands on Kafka experience, or similar streaming technologies such as Pulsar or Kinesis, including partitioning strategies, consumer groups, ordering guarantees and scaling.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or QuestDB.
  • Exposure to JVM technologies such as Java or Clojure.
  • AWS experience, although equivalent cloud platforms are absolutely fine.

Location - Fully remote.

UK based candidates are preferred, although we are also keen to hear from engineers based elsewhere in Europe or Dubai who can work within compatible time zones.
