About the role
Reading Borough Council is looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Developer to join our Digital, Technology and Change Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the design, development and delivery of digital services that make a real difference to residents, businesses and communities across Reading. You'll work on transformational projects, including our Customer Contact Management (CCM) platform built on Salesforce, helping to shape the future of digital service delivery across the Council.
As a Senior Developer, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders and suppliers to deliver high-quality, user-focused solutions. You'll lead development activities, champion best practice, and drive innovation through automation, integration and modern software development approaches.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and delivery of digital products and services.
- Develop and maintain customer-facing applications and system integrations.
- Design and implement APIs, automated workflows and cloud-based solutions.
- Translate user and business requirements into effective digital services.
- Ensure solutions meet security, accessibility and quality standards.
- Support agile delivery and continuous improvement practices.
- Mentor colleagues and promote technical best practices across the team.
About you
We're looking for a talented developer with:
- Strong Python development skills (Flask, Django or FastAPI).
- Experience delivering digital products within agile teams.
- Experience with APIs, systems integration and cloud technologies.
- Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS and modern web development practices.
- Experience using source control and continuous delivery tools.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with Salesforce Service Cloud.
