Senior Scala Engineer (Post Trade Data Platform)
A tier-one global investment bank is scaling its strategic Post Trade Data Platform across Global Markets, with upcoming initiatives set to grow the platform to 10x current ingestion volumes while raising the bar on data accessibility, usability, resilience and quality.
You will join a horizontal Engineering and Architecture team spanning London, New York and India, sitting at the centre of a major transformation programme that underpins operational intelligence, advanced analytics and next-generation AI-driven use cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Build the Strategic Platform: Engineer innovative, scalable and resilient solutions that advance the core data platform.
- Own Architecture & Strategy: Define and drive the technical direction needed to support the future needs of Operations and the business.
- Lead Through Craft: Provide technical leadership via architecture, design, and code/PR reviews, championing high standards of code quality and engineering excellence.
- Mentor & Improve: Mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement in platform capabilities, development practices, and operational effectiveness.

Required Skills
- Core Technical Stack: Deep expertise in Scala, Java, or another JVM language, including performance optimisation and tuning.
- Data Platforms: Strong experience with database technologies including Oracle Exadata at scale, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or similar.
- Cloud & DevOps: Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix, OpenShift/Kubernetes, and Ansible.
- Distributed Systems: Experience building and supporting reactive, event-sourced systems, with hands-on Apache Spark and Apache Flink.
- APIs & Data Formats: Strong understanding of Apache HTTP, Envoy, and REST API design, plus experience with Protobuf, Avro, and Parquet.

Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of Iceberg, Databricks, and Hadoop ecosystems.
- TDD, ATDD, and Clean Coding practices within a CI/CD environment (e.g. Jenkins, Gradle).
- Experience with Scrum/Agile methods and modern software design patterns.
