Senior Scala Engineer - Contract

Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite)
Contract: 12 Months
Rate: £625 per day (Inside IR35)

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Scala Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team on a 12-month contract. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer with deep Scala expertise who is also comfortable working across the full stack using TypeScript.

You'll play a key role in designing, building, and enhancing scalable, cloud-native applications while collaborating closely with product managers, architects, and fellow engineers.

The role is approximately 90% Scala and 10% TypeScript, with a strong emphasis on backend development and modern engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Scala.
  • Build and enhance frontend components and APIs using TypeScript.
  • Develop scalable, resilient microservices and distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based deployments.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and optimise application performance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
