The role

We have a market leading reputation for producing bespoke solutions for niche customer groups managed by our broker partners, within the wider Schemes team we deliver Schemes (Delegated Authorities and MGA) solutions across the UK retail business.

You’ll work to deliver the underwriting components of new scheme opportunities as well as aiding change across the existing schemes portfolio. You’ll work with the wider Schemes Team across underwriting, operations, sales and the wider senior leadership team to drive improvement and profitable growth of our schemes portfolio, playing an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the book in line with our strategy.

You’ll report directly to the Schemes Sector Lead and will have responsibility for ensuring that new schemes align with Hiscox’s appetite and underwriting strategy in the Professions sector. You will drive and shape our selection, growth, underwriting, performance and portfolio management strategy. You will work closely with the Delivery manager who oversees the delivery process, and will be responsible for ensuring that all scheme governance is followed.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Deliver the underwriting components of New Schemes and existing scheme projects, including assessment of financial modelling, assessment of exposures, creation/review of underwriting guides, review and creation of wordings
  • Act as a senior referral point for more complex case underwriting.
  • Working in conjunction with the wider Schemes Leadership Team you will be responsible and accountable for preparing and delivering profitable growth plans for the sector
  • Keep abreast of new risks and exposures within our chosen sectors to ensure Hiscox market leading position is maintained.
  • Working with the Sector lead to help develop new products and propositions and maximise the opportunity within our current/future portfolios of business
  • As a senior member of the team take an active role in mentoring and developing more junior members of the team
  • Working with the Sector lead around shaping and driving the underlying underwriting strategy and portfolio of business to deliver our 2030 ambitions
  • Taking underwriting ownership, relationship management and accountability for some of our key strategic broker partners

Our must-haves:

  • Ability to make a confident decision in difficult and complex situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
  • Significant underwriting and analytical experience
  • ACII qualification or progression towards
  • Confident analysing data and reports, making and executing underwriting decisions on portfolios of business
  • Results driven, ability to make decisions and operate on own initiative
  • Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally
  • Open to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking
