Senior Science Technician

Location: Akeley Wood School, Buckingham, MK18 5AE

Salary: £13,480.92 per annum (not pro rata)

Hours: 20 hours per week

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: January 2027

Role Purpose

As a Senior Science Technician, you will be responsible for the preparation, organisation and maintenance of equipment, resources and materials used across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Working closely with teaching staff, you will ensure practical lessons run smoothly while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

Your work will be essential in helping students develop their scientific knowledge through hands-on learning and practical experimentation.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Prepare, set up and clear away equipment and materials for practical science lessons and demonstrations.
  • Maintain, organise and carry out safety checks on laboratory equipment, facilities and resources across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • Manage chemical storage, stock levels and departmental inventory, ensuring safe handling and compliance with regulations.
  • Support teachers with practical activities, classroom resources and technical assistance during lessons where required.
  • Assist with risk assessments, COSHH records and health and safety compliance, following current CLEAPSS and ASE guidance.
  • Check deliveries, manage supplies and help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Science Department.

What You Will Bring

  • Experience working as a Science Technician or within a laboratory, educational or scientific environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of laboratory procedures and health and safety regulations.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently while building positive relationships with teaching and support staff.
  • Confidence in handling scientific equipment, chemicals and laboratory resources safely.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
