Senior Scientist

Location: Slough, United Kingdom

The actual location of this job is in Slough, United Kingdom. This is a fully site-based role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

As a Senior Scientist within Development Services, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality experimental work across multiple customer projects. You will apply your scientific expertise to purification development and viral clearance activities, collaborate closely with customers and multidisciplinary teams, and help deliver projects safely, on time and to a high standard.

What you will do:

  • Design, execute and deliver multiple laboratory projects, maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and right-first-time delivery.
  • Perform purification development and viral clearance experimental work, including chromatography, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, column packing, virus reduction filtration, stability studies and high-throughput screening.
  • Critically review and interpret experimental data and information to generate robust process knowledge and support data-driven decisions.
  • Work closely with customer project teams, providing scientific input, presenting project progress, responding to challenges and supporting a positive customer experience.
  • Prepare and review scientific and project documentation, including sampling plans, protocols, reports, standard operating procedures and study documentation.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate studies, troubleshoot issues and support the assessment of project deviations.
  • Coach and train more junior members of the team while contributing to continuous improvement, new ways of working and departmental best practice.

What we are looking for:

  • A BSc or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific or technical discipline.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, with strong practical experience in scientific experimentation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge or experience of purification development techniques such as chromatography and ultrafiltration/diafiltration; experience in viral clearance activities would be valuable.
  • Strong planning, prioritization and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver work to agreed timelines.
  • The ability to critically analyse experimental data, solve problems logically and communicate scientific conclusions clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to present experimental results and interact with customers.
  • A collaborative approach, with an interest in coaching others, continuous improvement and developing subject matter expertise.
