ADC Discovery Lead
Northreach supports innovative biotechnology companies with specialist scientific and operational hiring. We are currently partnering with a growing UK biotech company seeking an experienced ADC Discovery Lead to support the development of its antibody-drug conjugate programmes.
This is a broad, hands-on position combining ADC expertise, experimental strategy, external study oversight and cross-functional project leadership. You will generate and interpret high-quality data to guide candidate selection and programme decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead scientific activities across antibody-drug conjugate discovery and early development programmes
- Develop and implement screening strategies for the evaluation and selection of ADC candidates
- Define appropriate biophysical, functional and virology assays to characterise antibodies, conjugates and lead compounds
- Design experimental plans that support compound optimisation, candidate selection and key programme decisions
- Manage external CROs delivering assay development, screening, characterisation and preclinical studies
- Review CRO proposals, protocols, timelines, data packages and study reports
- Analyse and interpret complex scientific data, identifying appropriate follow-up experiments
- Evaluate the relationship between antibody properties, conjugation, payload activity, stability and biological performance
- Work closely with internal scientific teams and external partners to advance programmes against agreed objectives
- Communicate study progress, results, risks and recommendations to cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
- Identify scientific and delivery risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies
- Contribute to project plans, regulatory documentation, patent applications, publications and scientific presentations
- Maintain high-quality scientific records and ensure external work is delivered to appropriate standards

About You
- PhD, or equivalent industry experience, in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, virology or a related discipline
- Strong industry experience in antibody-drug conjugate discovery or development
- Experience designing and implementing screening strategies for ADCs, antibodies or related biologic therapeutics
- Strong understanding of antibody biology, conjugation approaches, linker and payload technologies, and ADC mechanisms of action
- Experience using biophysical and functional assays to characterise and select therapeutic candidates
- Ability to independently design experiments and critically interpret complex datasets
- Demonstrable experience managing scientific programmes or study packages through CROs
- Experience progressing compounds through discovery and into preclinical development
- Strong project-leadership, organisational and stakeholder-management skills
- Comfortable working across internal teams and external scientific partners
- An adaptable, collaborative and hands-on approach suited to a growing biotechnology company

Desirable Experience
- Experience developing or overseeing virology-based screening assays
- Experience with monoclonal-antibody discovery, engineering or characterisation
- Knowledge of ADC developability, stability, aggregation, potency and safety assessment
- Experience supporting candidate nomination and preclinical development activities
- Understanding of regulatory expectations for biologics or ADC development
- Previous experience leading multidisciplinary discovery projects within a small or growing biotechnology company
