Full Circle Labs is a London-based startup providing high-quality, rapid, scientific technical services to scientists in academia and industry. Currently we specialise in sequencing services. We currently work on projects all the way from inception and experimental design, to specialised library preparation, sequencing and data analysis. This gives our customers confidence that they are doing the right experiments and getting the right data to back up their hypotheses.

What you’ll do
Your time will be divided across two areas:
Wet lab research (80%)
- You will lead the wet lab component of a project in collaboration with Imperial College London. The project aims to develop a method for digitally signing microbial genomes. Specifically, you will develop a method to encode a key into Escherichia coli as a proof of concept. This will include:
- Molecular cloning and with scarless genomic integration
- Bacterial cell culture
- Whole genome sequencing
- Reviewing the literature on specific biological pathways
- Methods to enrich for certain genomics sequences
- Lab operations to maintain stocks/instrument calibration for your project.
- You will also design and run experiments to assess the efficiency, stability, and sensitivity of the method.

Dry lab research (20%)
- You will develop tools/pipelines to analyse sequencing data in real time, looking for variants and stopping sequencing automatically based on your analysis
- Bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data (e.g. variant calling, alignment) to assess method performance
Qualifications
What we are looking for
- PhD or equivalent research experience in a Life Sciences field (Biotechnology, Microbiology, Engineering Biology, or related). Candidates with significant research experience but no PhD are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong hands-on experience with molecular cloning, gene integration, bacterial cell culture, and DNA extraction.
- Strong knowledge of biological pathways.
- Experience with DNA sequencing (long-read sequencing experience preferred)
- Experience analysing DNA sequencing data (e.g. variant calling, sequence alignment) sufficient to independently assess method performance from WGS output
- Experience developing your own lab protocols
- Experience with experimental design
- Self-starter & ability to independently learn new things
- Positive attitude, works well in a team and excellent communication.
- Ability to deliver to tight project deadlines, meet milestones and adapt dynamically based on changing priorities.
Desirable
- Experience with targeted sequence enrichment
- Experience with laboratory automation
- Experience in variants data analysis
- Startup or industry experience
- Regulated environment experience (ISO 17025 or ISO 15189)

- Expected salary range (based on experience): £45,000 - £50,000
