Senior Scientist - Translational Developability
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and self-motivated senior scientist to join the Translational Developability group within MDE and working within a matrix role. The role will be primarily lab-focused, working with teams of scientists with diverse skills including protein biochemists, in vitro and ex vivo assay scientists, antibody pharmacologists, and molecular biologists as well as in close partnership with other parts of the GSK organization. It involves using high throughput methods to rapidly profile large panels of antibodies and perform interpretations on the generated data in the early discovery phase. These activities will focus on in vitro prediction of antibody characteristics during exposure in vivo.
Large Molecule Research within GSK is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression, and characterization to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling. Within the Large Molecule Discovery Unit, the Molecular Design and Engineering (MDE) group takes accountability for antibody engineering and developability profiling prior to candidate selection to continuously improve molecule quality and transform discovered leads into potential therapeutics.
About the Role
As a Senior Scientist, you will lead laboratory science to characterise and de-risk therapeutic antibody and biopharmaceutical candidates. You will work closely with colleagues in discovery and early development to design and run experiments that deliver clear decision-making data. This role offers hands-on laboratory work, scientific ownership, and opportunities to develop both technical and leadership capabilities while contributing to the progression of innovative therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver experiments to characterise antibody-based molecules using a range of techniques such as chromatography-based analytical techniques such as SEC-HPLC and CIEX-HPLC, as well as ELISA and flow-based assays.
- Analyse and interpret experimental data to provide clear, actionable recommendations to project teams.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to support programme progression and scientific decision-making.
- Maintain accurate experimental records and produce high-quality documentation including formal reports.
- Contribute to assay development, qualification, and optimisation to improve throughput and data quality.
- Promote safe laboratory practices and support equipment and reagent management.
Why You?
Basic Qualifications & Skills
- Advanced degree (PhD or MSc with relevant laboratory expertise) in biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology or related life science discipline, or BSc with equivalent experience.
- Independence and competence performing relevant analytical/ biological research techniques (in one or more of the following: immunoassay, flow cytometry, SEC-HPLC).
- Pharmaceutical, Biotech, or CRO industry experience working on large molecules and knowledge of antibody structure and function.
- Experience of working with human biological materials such as serum or plasma.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to present scientific findings to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Exposure to large or complex datasets and data visualisation tools.
- Good understanding of antibody clearance mechanisms and related concepts.
- Background in assay development, qualification, or automation.
- Familiarity with cell-based assays or molecular biology techniques.
- Experience of the use and design of automated solutions to scientific workflows including liquid handlers.
- Interest or experience in data science or statistical approaches to experimental design.
Location
For candidates seeking to be located at our Stevenage site, this role will temporarily be based at Stevenage. However, the Company plans to relocate its offices to Cambridge, UK. The location of this role will therefore subsequently change to Cambridge, UK in accordance with timelines to be set by the Company. The relocation is currently proposed to take effect by early 2029.
