Senior SDETs – Fintech | 6-Month Contract
Location: London – 2 days per month onsite
Rate: £750–£850 per day
IR35: Inside IR35
Contract: 6 months
The Opportunity
We’re looking for Senior SDETs to join a leading fintech on an initial 6-month contract. This is a hands-on role for an experienced test automation engineer who can operate at a senior level, influence engineering practices, and help drive quality across complex financial technology platforms.
You’ll work closely with developers, product managers, architects and other QA professionals to build robust, scalable and highly automated testing solutions.
The role offers a flexible hybrid model, with just 2 days per month in London.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain robust automated test frameworks and test suites.
- Drive test automation strategy across web, API and backend services.
- Work closely with software engineers to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Develop automated functional, integration, regression and end-to-end tests.
- Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, reliability and execution times.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Investigate complex defects and work collaboratively with engineering teams to identify root causes.
- Contribute to quality engineering standards, processes and best practices.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other SDETs and QA engineers.
- Support performance, reliability and non-functional testing where required.
- Help shape a strong culture of automation and engineering excellence.

Essential Experience
- Strong commercial experience as an SDET, Senior QA Automation Engineer or equivalent.
- Extensive experience building and maintaining automation frameworks.
- Strong programming experience in React Native or TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Strong experience with API and service-level testing.
- Experience testing distributed, cloud-based or highly scalable systems.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD and automated quality gates.
- Experience working within Agile engineering teams.
- Solid understanding of software development and testing principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in fintech, banking, payments or another highly regulated environment would be highly desirable.

Desirable
- Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, REST Assured or similar.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging or microservices.
- Performance and load testing experience.
- Experience working with financial transactions, payments or other complex financial workflows.
