Division Overview
The Security division within the Bank mitigates risks to the Bank’s property, infrastructure, people, services or assets being compromised, harmed, damaged, stolen or disrupted either by external actors and or people exploiting their access to Bank assets or premises.
The Team
This role sits within the Personnel Security function of the Bank, protecting the Bank and its people from insider risk and extending the protection of the Bank beyond its physical buildings. The personal safety and security role plays a critical role in safeguarding employees and ensuring compliance with relevant Bank policies. The role involves assessing, managing, and mitigating risks associated with personal security to the Banks operations and its people. This primarily relates to business travel, including working from abroad. The analyst will monitor global security events, conduct risk assessments, and provide guidance to protect travellers and maintain operational continuity. It also includes the investigation and risk assessing events being hosted by the Bank both internally and externally, particularly considering issues like invite lists, the landscape of current affairs, domestic and geopolitical risks, and location. Investigating and making decisions and or recommendations on referrals into the threat inbox of individuals who may pose a risk to the Bank and its people. Supporting the risk assessment and mitigation of Bank staff and or specific teams that may be at a heightened risk due to their seniority, areas of work, public exposure.
This role requires analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to react promptly to potential threats. The analyst works proactively to develop and implement strategies that minimise risks and ensure a secure environment.
Role Description
This role sits within the Bank’s Personnel Security function, helping protect the Bank of England, its people and its operations from insider, personal safety and security risks. The role focuses on assessing, managing and mitigating risks linked to business travel, working from abroad, Bank-hosted or attended events, public-facing colleagues and referrals relating to individuals who may pose a risk to the Bank or its people.
The successful candidate will combine strong judgement, analytical ability, attention to detail and clear communication. They will monitor global and domestic security developments, assess threats and vulnerabilities, provide practical advice, and support proportionate mitigations in line with the Bank’s risk appetite.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments to Bank personnel. Making informed recommendations on how to manage those risks and where appropriate escalate issues. This includes but is not limited to:
- Travel overseas which would include pre and post travel briefings with tailored security recommendations.
- Offer colleagues support during travel emergencies, liaising with travel risk management provider, insurers, brokers, local authorities, and third-party security providers.
- Conduct risk assessments for events attended and or hosted by Bank colleagues.
- Personal security risk assessments, providing recommendations, and delivering mitigations for Bank colleagues (typically at a senior level) and or specific teams that may be at a heightened risk.
- Monitor and analyse threats, vulnerabilities, and relevant incidents that could pose a risk to our travellers or events, such as:
- Crime, terrorism, political instability, current affairs, activism, natural disasters, and health risks.
- Actively support the develop, implementation, and updating of safety and security policies, procedures, and guidance that is proportionate and in line with the Bank’s organisational risk appetite.
- Actively support the Bank’s security education program.
- Professionally represent the Bank and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other central banks, law enforcement, emergency services etc.
- Support the Banks counter eavesdropping / electronic monitoring activity, including the conduct sweeps to identify devices of concern.

Role Requirements
Minimum Criteria
- Recent experience making evidence-based security risk decisions, including assessing threats, vulnerabilities, likelihood, impact and appropriate mitigations.
- Proven experience conducting either interviews, briefings and or structured information-gathering in a security, investigative or risk context.
- Experience of gathering and analysing information from various sources, such as security, geopolitical, travel, events, to inform risk assessments, recommendations or operational decisions.
- Experience of communicating clearly and confidently with stakeholders, including senior colleagues, while handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Able to handle sensitive information discreetly and securely.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of in one of more of the areas of: travel security, event security, executive protection, or physical/personnel security.
- Demonstrable ability to produce clear, accurate written advice, reports and recommendations for varied audiences, including senior stakeholders.
- Proven attention to detail, with evidence of identifying relevant risks, inconsistencies and information gaps.
- Track record of managing busy workloads, prioritising competing demands and escalating issues appropriately with limited direction.
- Clear evidence of building trusted working relationships across internal teams and external partners, representing the Bank professionally and with discretion.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of or qualifications in residential security and of counter-eavesdropping / technical surveillance counter measures or NACE-accredited qualification.
- Ability to support development of policies, procedures, guidance, training, or awareness material in a practical and accessible way.

Salary and Benefits Information
The salary for this position is £39,280 - £44,190
We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
- Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time.
- A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
- An 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
- 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.

National Security Vetting Process
Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
