Security Systems Engineer
Security systems are a fundamental part of modern buildings and critical infrastructure, helping to protect people, assets, operations, and business continuity. As buildings become increasingly connected and complex, the integration of intelligent security solutions is more important than ever. We're looking for an experienced Security Engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career and become a key technical leader within our business.
At Black & White Engineering, you'll have the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of security systems across some of the most complex and high-profile engineering projects in the industry. While our expertise is widely recognised within the data centre and mission critical sector, our projects span a range of markets where resilience, operational continuity, and security are essential.
This is more than a design role. It's an opportunity to influence project strategy, drive technical excellence, champion innovation, and work alongside some of the most respected engineers and consultants in the sector.
You'll be trusted to take ownership, challenge convention, and help deliver future-ready security solutions that support our clients' operational, regulatory, and business objectives. Whether you're presenting concepts to clients, collaborating with multidisciplinary MEP and ICT teams, mentoring junior engineers, or helping define security standards across projects, your expertise will have a genuine impact.
As part of one of the industry's fastest-growing engineering consultancies, you'll also have the opportunity to accelerate your own development, expand your professional network, and play a visible role in projects that are helping shape the future of the built environment.
This role can be based from any of our UK offices, giving you the flexibility to work from a location that suits you while collaborating with colleagues and clients across our national and global business.
What's in It for You
- Take Ownership of Major Projects - Be the go-to technical authority for security systems design across large-scale, complex, and mission critical developments. You'll lead the development of security strategies and detailed designs, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with client requirements.
- Collaborate with Industry Experts - Work alongside leading Mechanical, Electrical, ICT, Digital Infrastructure, and Building Services engineers while partnering directly with clients, vendors, contractors, and project stakeholders. You'll help ensure seamless integration of security systems within wider building and infrastructure designs.
- Drive Innovation and Secure-by-Design Principles - Help shape the next generation of secure, intelligent facilities by championing innovation in physical security technologies, system integration, operational resilience, and smart building environments. Your ideas will help define how we deliver projects across data centres and other technically demanding sectors.
- Build Your Professional Profile - Lead workshops, present design solutions to clients, contribute to technical reviews, and influence project outcomes at every stage. You'll enjoy meaningful exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to establish yourself as a recognised expert within the industry.
- Lead, Mentor and Inspire - Support and develop junior engineers while helping grow our security engineering capability. You'll play a key role in fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture while continuing to develop your own leadership skills.
- Gain End-to-End Project Insight - From concept development and detailed design through to contractor engagement, site inspections, witnessing, commissioning support, and project handover, you'll gain valuable exposure across the entire project lifecycle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
