Senior Security Engineer - Microsoft Defender & Sentinel

The opportunity

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Security Engineer to join their Microsoft Cyber Engineering team and play a key role in delivering security solutions for enterprise customers.

This is a practical engineering position rather than a purely advisory role. You’ll be responsible for building, configuring and improving Microsoft security environments, with a particular focus on Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel.

You’ll work across multiple customer environments, helping organizations strengthen their security posture while developing automation, improving detection capabilities and finding better ways for SOC teams to operate. The role is predominantly remote, with one day per month in the London office.

Your responsibilities

• Deploy, configure and support Microsoft security technologies across enterprise customer environments.
• Work extensively with Microsoft Defender, Sentinel and the wider Microsoft security ecosystem.
• Review customer tenants through technical assessments, configuration reviews, security audits and architecture evaluations.
• Identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvement, then provide practical recommendations.
• Build automation using scripting, KQL, Sentinel playbooks and other tooling to reduce repetitive SOC tasks.
• Develop workflows that improve incident handling, investigation and day-to-day operational efficiency.
• Partner closely with SOC Analysts to improve detections, investigation processes and alert quality.
• Turn operational requirements and analyst feedback into effective engineering solutions.
• Investigate emerging security technologies and assess where they could add value to the SOC.
• Establish engineering standards, reusable processes and technical best practices.
• Produce clear, professional security documentation and customer-facing reports.
• Assist with incident triage and technical investigations when required.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
