Job Opportunity: Senior Security Operations Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Security Operations Engineer based in United Kingdom.

About the Role

Join a high-impact security engineering environment focused on building and operating a world-class Security Operations function.

You’ll combine security operations, software engineering, security engineering, and site reliability practices to protect complex digital infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Combine security operations, software engineering, security engineering, and site reliability practices to protect complex digital infrastructure.
  • Provide operational and technical leadership across security operations initiatives.
  • Design, build, deploy, and operate security software, platforms, and tooling.
  • Monitor security environments, identify emerging threats, investigate incidents, coordinate responses, and drive effective remediation.
  • Assess existing security controls and recommend or implement improvements.
  • Apply software engineering and site reliability principles to automate security processes.
  • Mentor and support early-career Security Operations engineers.
  • Plan, prioritise, and deliver security initiatives within an agile engineering framework.
  • Collaborate across engineering and security teams to address complex technical challenges.
  • Contribute to the wider open source security ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, with substantial experience across cybersecurity and/or software engineering.
  • Professional experience in security operations, ideally including experience working within or leading a Security Operations Center.
  • Strong software engineering background with the ability to design and develop reliable security tools and platforms.
  • Hands-on proficiency with scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • Working knowledge of Git, GitOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of security operations, including security monitoring, threat hunting, incident response, remediation, and defensive security practices.
  • Experience working with complex or high-impact security environments and the ability to respond effectively to sophisticated threats.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related discipline, or a compelling professional background demonstrating equivalent expertise.
  • A strong record of academic, technical, or professional achievement and a genuine interest in open source security.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or ISO 27001 is valued.
  • Experience with security architecture, leading security tools, offensive or defensive security teams, advanced persistent threats, or additional programming languages such as Go is an advantage.
