🔍 About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Server Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team at Hampshire Trust Bank.
This is a senior technical role responsible for the delivery, stability, security and continuous improvement of our core server infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. You’ll act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, provide expert support across critical platforms, and help shape the future direction of our infrastructure estate.
Working closely with Infrastructure, Security, Transformation and Technology teams, you'll combine hands-on engineering expertise with architectural thinking to deliver secure, resilient and scalable solutions that support the bank’s ongoing growth.
💼 Key Responsibilities
Server Infrastructure & Platform Management
- Design, build, manage and support physical and virtual server infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments
- Administer Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu) platforms, ensuring performance, availability and security
- Manage core infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and identity integrations
- Support and maintain VMware virtualisation platforms and associated tooling
- Manage server lifecycle activities including patching, upgrades and platform refreshes
SQL & Application Support
- Provide senior-level support for critical business applications
- Support Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, UAT and development
- Build, configure and maintain SQL Server hosts and instances
- Develop and execute SQL queries to support investigations, reporting and operational activities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues through root cause analysis and performance monitoring

Resilience, Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Ensure high availability and resilience across server and storage platforms
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing and recovery activities
- Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions
- Proactively identify and remove single points of failure
- Forecast capacity requirements and platform growth
Security, Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain secure server configurations aligned to security standards and policies
- Support vulnerability management and remediation activities
- Drive an automation-first approach through scripting and configuration management
- Contribute to infrastructure modernisation and standardisation initiatives
- Work closely with Information Security teams to manage risk and ensure compliance
Documentation & Technical Leadership
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, configuration records and support guides
- Create operational runbooks and knowledge articles
- Mentor colleagues and share technical knowledge across teams
- Support vendors and stakeholders to deliver exceptional service outcomes
- Drive continuous improvement and reduce recurring incidents through effective root cause analysis

🎯 What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong experience administering Windows Server environments within enterprise organisations
- Strong Linux administration experience, ideally Ubuntu
- Experience supporting VMware vSphere / ESXi environments
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration and support experience
- Expertise in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud environments
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions such as Rubrik or Zerto
- Experience working with enterprise storage platforms
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, SSO and Conditional Access

Technical Skills
- PowerShell, Bash or Python scripting
- Infrastructure automation using Ansible, Terraform or similar tools
- Docker and containerisation technologies
- REST APIs, YAML, Postman and automation tooling
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
- Knowledge of ITIL processes including Incident, Problem and Change Management
