About the job

As part of the development of our Digital Services function, we are recruiting to strengthen internal digital capability within Cyber Security, Digital Operational Services, and Digital Corporate and Shared Services. These roles are central to building sustainable in-house expertise that supports the management, development, and delivery of digital solutions across the transport network.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Service Delivery Manager (HADECs) to join our team in Digital Operational Services. This role provides a superb opportunity to be a Senior Service Delivery Manager leading the delivery of essential roadside technology services that are critical to the delivery of a safe and reliable motorway and trunk road network. If you are passionate about service delivery, determined to succeed, and want to develop new skills and grasp opportunities that will enable you to progress in the future, then we’d like to hear from you.

You will be working with some of the 30,000 roadside assets (e.g. message signs and signals, emergency phones, CCTV, stopped vehicle detectors (SVD), speed enforcement) which enables National Highways to operate, maintain, and develop our Strategic Road Network safely and efficiently for our customers who use it and our workforce who are deployed on it. Roadside Technology provides vital services to our seven Regional Control Centres, which in turn enables them to manage regular congestion, local incidents, and area-wide events.

This is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week in the office, and can be based at any National Highways office location across the UK, with some travel to attend team meetings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
