About Amber Labs

At Amber Labs, we’re a people-first technology consultancy delivering secure, scalable and user-centred digital solutions across UK Central Government. We work on complex digital transformation programmes that genuinely make a difference, bringing together talented people across design, research, technology, delivery and business analysis.

We’re proud of our supportive, collaborative culture, where people are encouraged to share ideas, challenge thinking and develop their expertise.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Service Designer to join our team and work on complex government digital transformation programmes. You’ll take an end-to-end view of services, understanding how users, people, processes, technology, data and policy come together.

You’ll use research and evidence to identify problems and opportunities, then help multidisciplinary teams design better, more accessible and user-centred services. This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys working on complex operational or internal government services, including case management, workflow and services involving multiple systems and teams.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing and mapping end-to-end services
  • Creating user journeys, service blueprints and process maps
  • Working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live
  • Facilitating workshops with users, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
  • Working closely with User Researchers to turn research into actionable recommendations
  • Identifying pain points, dependencies and opportunities for improvement
  • Managing and influencing senior and non-technical stakeholders
  • Supporting Agile multidisciplinary teams
  • Developing prototypes and iterating designs based on evidence and feedback
  • Applying UCD, GDS Service Standards and Government Design Principles
  • Championing accessibility and inclusive design, including WCAG
  • Making complex processes, systems and services easy to understand and communicate

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
