Senior Service Engineer (Protection & Control)

Electrification and Automation (EA)

Location: Hebburn, Newcastle upon Tyne (70% Office/Home Based, 30% Customer Site Travel)

Siemens Smart Infrastructure is looking for a Senior Service Engineer to join our Protection & Control team in Hebburn. In this role, you'll support the maintenance, troubleshooting and enhancement of critical Protection & Control systems across the UK's Transmission & Distribution network.

You'll be responsible for fault finding, testing, commissioning and technical support activities, helping customers maintain safe, reliable and efficient network operations while delivering against service commitments.

Key Responsibilities

As our Senior Service Engineer, you will:

  • Participate in an on-call support rota, responding to customer network issues as required.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers under Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across Protection & Control systems.
  • Log customer incidents and produce service reports.
  • Attend customer sites when required to investigate faults and implement solutions.
  • Develop and configure Protection & Control solutions.
  • Produce and review engineering documentation, including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and I/O Schedules.
  • Create test schedules and support testing activities.
  • Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities.
  • Provide Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) support.
  • Carry out secondary injection testing.
  • Ensure solutions comply with relevant customer specifications, policies and industry standards.
  • Work with Siemens technologies, including SIPROTEC 5 and SICAM PASS/SCC.

Essential

What You'll Bring

  • BENG in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Experience within the Electricity Transmission & Distribution industry.
  • Protection & Control and/or Control Systems engineering experience, ideally supporting Transmission projects.
  • Strong fault-finding, testing and commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of Protection & Control systems, communication protocols and engineering documentation.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call support rota.

Desirable

  • Experience with Siemens SIPROTEC 5 and SICAM.
  • Experience delivering support under customer SLAs.
  • Knowledge of transmission projects, processes or specifications.
  • Good IT skills and cyber security awareness.
