ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Service Engineer is responsible for the repair, calibration, servicing, testing and certification of Leica Geosystems' surveying, machine control, geomatics and engineering equipment to the highest standards of quality, accuracy and customer satisfaction.

The role provides technical expertise, supports continuous improvement within the workshop, and acts as a subject matter expert for designated product ranges. The post holder will also support customers, distributors and colleagues with technical advice, troubleshooting and product knowledge.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical service delivery

  • Diagnose, repair, calibrate, service and certify Leica Geosystems equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established service procedures.
  • Undertake complex fault finding on electronic, mechanical and optical systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed service turnaround times.
  • Carry out final quality inspections and testing prior to product release.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate service records using company systems and processes.
  • Prepare service quotations and estimates, including labour, parts and consumables as required.
  • Ensure spare parts are correctly allocated and recorded against service jobs to maintain stock accuracy.
  • Escalate complex technical issues through the appropriate channels where resolution cannot be achieved locally.

Technical Expertise

  • Act as a recognised technical specialist for designated product families.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Leica Geosystems products, technologies and service methodologies.
  • Review technical bulletins, service updates and product communications from global manufacturing and engineering teams.
  • Support the implementation of new products, repair processes and service procedures.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practice with colleagues to improve team capability.

Customer support

  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to customers, distributors and internal stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Technical Support, Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve customer issues effectively.
  • Assist with customer demonstrations, product familiarisation and technical training when required.
  • Support a positive customer experience through professional and timely communication.

Quality, Compliance and Continuous Improvement

  • Adhere to all quality management systems, processes and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with calibration, certification and product traceability requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce rework, improve turnaround times and optimise service processes.
  • Participate in audits, process reviews and improvement projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Significant experience in diagnosis, repair and servicing electronic equipment to component, board or module level.
  • Experience working within a technical service, calibration, manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electronic and electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic fault-finding techniques and diagnostic processes.
  • Experience working with precision mechanical assemblies and electromechanical systems.
  • Computer literate, with experience using service management, diagnostic or calibration software.
  • Understanding of quality standards, service procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Experience accurately recording service activities, parts usage and repair outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new technologies, products and service methodologies.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to changing business and customer requirements.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with customers, colleagues and external partners.
  • BTEC, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship qualification or equivalent in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or a related discipline.
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.

Desirable:

  • Experience servicing surveying, geomatics, machine control or precision measurement equipment.
  • Experience working with optical systems and precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in providing technical support directly to customers.
  • Knowledge of Leica Geosystems products and solutions.
  • HNC/HND in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Manufacturer technical certifications.
