Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior SHEQ Manager to support the delivery of a world-class Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, Sustainability and Wellbeing strategy across our multi-site operations.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of SHEQ, the Senior SHEQ Manager will be responsible for helping to support and embed a proactive safety culture, providing expert SHEQ guidance to operational leaders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory and corporate requirements.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen organisational capability, and support the delivery of Finning's global SHEQ objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and verification of our Serious Injury & Fatality prevention strategy, ensuring a high standard of Critical Control Health, to prevent catastrophic workplace accidents.
  • Support leaders in the implementation of our Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) strategy.
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of SHEQ, sustainability and wellbeing strategies, frameworks and policies.
  • Promote and embed a proactive, high-performance safety culture, encouraging visible leadership and accountability across all business areas.
  • Work in partnership with operational and functional leaders to ensure SHEQ objectives are fully integrated into business plans and activities.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable UK and Ireland health, safety, environmental and quality legislation, regulations and internal policies.
  • Interpret legislative and regulatory requirements and support their practical implementation across the organisation.
  • Lead and oversee incident reporting, investigation and root cause analysis processes, ensuring effective corrective actions and organisational learning.
  • Support the identification, assessment and management of organisational risks, ensuring effective controls and mitigation plans are maintained.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to SHEQ professionals and operational leaders, building capability and accountability across the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Significant SHEQ experience within a complex, multi-site engineering, industrial or construction environment.
  • Significant experience of Serious Injury & Fatality prevention strategies, ensuring a high standard of Critical Control Health.
  • Experience and a practical understanding of Human and Organisational Performance principles.
  • Experience within construction, engineering, industrial, heavy equipment or related sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK and Ireland health, safety, environmental and quality legislation and best practice.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability requirements and environmental management principles. In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems.
  • Knowledge of risk management, assurance and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Understanding of organisational change management and cultural transformation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively at all levels.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills with a collaborative and engaging approach.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading teams and developing SHEQ capability across a business.
  • Track record of delivering measurable improvements in safety performance, compliance and risk management.
